Fedora 16 vs. Ubuntu 11.10 Performance Benchmarks

After recently comparing Ubuntu 11.10 and Fedora 16 for boot speed and power consumption, up now are various Linux benchmarks under both of these distributions.

There wasn’t any clear winner overall for the compute tests. While the compute performance was close to the same due to a similar compiler and the recent Linux kernel, the disk performance results were interesting as well as the open-source graphics performance. However, there is no tier-one Linux desktop distribution that is significantly faster than the other binary distributions from all of the tests that have been conducted as of late. If deciding between Fedora 16 and Ubuntu 11.10, it’s more important to choose the desktop to your liking, Red Hat vs. Debian differences, and other factors.
